Product Use

What is a HIDE cover, and how does it work?

A HIDE cover is a stainless-steel inlay system that integrates your chosen landscape material (like tile, stone, concrete, decking, or artificial grass) into the lid, making it virtually invisible in the landscape. The Frames the lid, preventing chipping during opening or closing. Access is secure and pool-safe, using a child-safe Safety Key.

Which surfaces can I inlay?

You can inlay stone, tile, pavers, decking, artificial grass, or wet-pour concrete for a seamless finish. Choose a HIDE kit depth that is suited to your infill material thickness. Depth options typically range from 8 mm up to ~62 mm (see the installation instructions).

What areas are HIDE covers suited to?

Ideal for concealing service points like skimmer boxes, drains, access points—typically any below surface level service point, especially around pools, patios, and paths. They eliminate raised or visible lids and tripping hazards. They are for pedestrian use only, not rated for vehicles.

Do you supply the inlay materials?

No. The landscape material is provided onsite (matching your design). HIDE kits include only the Infill Tray, frame, key, height adjuster and Adhesive; you inlay with your chosen surface material.

Can I retrofit HIDE over existing plastic lids?

Yes—HIDE kits can be retrofitted or installed in new projects. When retrofitting, the plastic lid is removed. Note that some extra bedding may need to be removed to allow for the extra depth of the HIDE Frame. See the cross-section guide and explanations on each product page in the Shop.

What installation considerations are there?

1) Check recess depth – The stainless edge-protector frame is 10 mm deeper than the inlay tray (e.g. HIDE-30 tray 33 mm vs edge-protector 43 mm), so your recess must accommodate both layers.

2) Set the frame flush – When levelling the bed, leave space so the top of the edge protector finishes perfectly level with the surrounding paving.

3) Leave a 1mm clearance gap on every side of the frame; Fill the gap around the edge protector with a flexible sealant to absorb seasonal movement.

Safety & Compliance

Are HIDE covers pool-safe?

Absolutely. HIDE covers are 100% compliant with pool-safety standards. They only open with the Safety Key and sit flush to eliminate tripping hazards. They prevent unwanted access, especially by children. They protect the inlay material from breaking underfoot.

Do HIDE covers need electrical bonding or earthing?

Stainless steel kits are conductive and include a pre-drilled hole for ready for a licensed electrician to attach an earthing wire. Compliance may vary based on location and installation positions, so check with your local regulations and electrician.

Durability & Maintenance

What materials are HIDE covers made of, and what warranty do they carry?

Standard kits use marine-grade 316L stainless steel (10-year warranty for lid, Edge Protector, Safety Key) Read more here

How do I maintain my HIDE cover?

Clean with soapy water (use a nylon scourer parallel to the grain). Avoid acidic or harsh chemical washes or concentrations of chlorine—use green acid alternatives when cleaning tiles. Regularly clear debris from the Edge Protector to prevent misalignment or uneven seating. Wipe away foreign materials from the Stainless Steel to maintain its appearance. Learn more here

Ordering

What size should I buy?

How do I know what size kit to purchase?

  1. Confirm the cover type. Decide whether you need a Skimmer Lid, Access Cover or Drain Cover first.
  2. Measure the clear opening (aperture). This is the underside opening the lid must bridge. Match it to the “G” column in our size chart (e.g. 252 mm opening ⇒ 306 mm kit; 288 mm ⇒ 342 mm kit).
  3. Measure your inlay thickness. Find the thickness of your tile, stone, paver, decking or concrete topping:
  4. With these considerations, use the tables to choose the kit that suits your needs. These tables can be found on the product pages—Skimmer Lids, Drain Covers and Access Covers, etc.
